Amendments to the legislation regarding consumer rights

On June 13 2014, amendments to legislation in the area of consumer rights will enter into force.

The amendments concern companies selling goods or services to consumers, especially on distance or off-premises, such as online sales. The amendments will occur in e.g. the Swedish Distance and Doorstep Sales Act (which will change its title to "Distance and Off-premises Contract Act"), the Swedish Marketing Act and the Swedish Consumer Sales Act. The amendments are made to implement the Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights, which will lead to a common level of consumer protection in the EU.

Because of the amendments, companies selling goods and services to consumers should consider reviewing their general purchase conditions and routines for providing information.
