Company names

We assist clients in protecting, enforcing and defending their company names.

Company names are similar to trade marks in many ways. The company name is often the most natural way of identifying and marketing a company's business. Disputes about unauthorised use of signs that are similar to another undertaking’s company name are reminiscent of trade mark disputes. A single dispute may deal with both trade marks and company names, and the cross-protection between the two.

Company name disputes often include issues relating to use on the internet – such as domain names – applying recently developed rules, which still is under development in the courts. In addition to the work we have done for our clients, our employees have been involved in legislative committees relating to company names.
