At Sandart, we have a long-standing track record of successfully guiding clients through all areas of intellectual property law. Consistently ranked among Sweden’s leading law firms in this field, we combine experience with forward-looking insight.

Our services cover the full spectrum of IP matters — from strategic advice and drafting licence agreements to representing our clients in court, defending against alleged infringements, and coordinating complex cross-border litigation.

Beyond practice, we play an active role in legislative inquiries, academic research, and professional associations. This means we don’t just interpret intellectual property law — we also contribute to shaping its future.

For you, that translates into cutting-edge expertise and advice you can rely on.

  • Patent

Sandart is consistently ranked as one of Sweden's leading law firms in patent law. Our ambition is to be the first choice in Sweden for innovative companies seeking the best possible advice in complex patent disputes and teams to represent them in Swedish courts or the UPC.

We have extensive experience in patent disputes. Our clients are mainly large and medium-sized European, American and Asian companies operating in various high-tech industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, telecommunications, the automotive industry, etc. Several of our clients are world leaders in their respective fields. We are engaged to protect companies' most valuable assets in the form of inventions in court or to assist our clients in defending themselves against allegations of patent infringement. We also offer advice on property rights, strategic and regulatory issues and have cutting-edge expertise in competition law issues relating to patents, e.g. in the application of industry standards.

Our specialists have many years of experience in extensive Swedish and pan-European patent disputes. Through a well-established network of patent engineers, we are able to successfully assist in litigation involving the most complex technical areas.

We are proud to have been entrusted to act as representatives in all court cases in Sweden involving standard-essential patents and competition law issues concerning FRAND licensing.

We are regularly commissioned to coordinate work on behalf of clients in court cases that are ongoing in parallel in several jurisdictions. Our many years of experience of working with foreign law firms from, for example, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and other Nordic countries means that we can help to ensure that our clients receive first-class assistance in the countries where the dispute is being tried.

Our UPC-team: Sandart has been actively following the development of the UPC system for many years, and our specialists regularly give lectures on UPC issues. We were therefore delighted that, on the very day the UPC was launched, we were able to participate in bringing the very first case before the Nordic-Baltic Regional Division (NBRD), the only UPC division with English as its exclusive language of proceedings. Since then, our UPC team – which includes a significant number of registered UPC agents – has been entrusted to act as agents in the majority of all cases brought before the Nordic-Baltic Regional Division. We were representatives in the first oral proceedings held at the NBRD, and we have also had the privilege of participating as representatives in one of the first proceedings held at the UPC Court of Appeal. Our intensive work with UPC disputes has given us in-depth knowledge in this area. We are convinced that our cutting-edge expertise gives our clients an edge in the UPC proceedings in which we participate.

  • Trademarks & Company names

We are experts in legal matters relating to trademarks and company names. Sandart is ranked as one of Sweden's leading law firms in this area in several international legal ranking institutes and directories.

Trademarks and company names are among the most valuable assets of many companies. Trademarks can be protected through registration in Sweden and throughout the EU. Swedish legal protection for company names corresponds to trademark protection in many respects. It is common for a dispute to concern both trademarks and company names and the cross-protection between them. Disputes concerning trademarks and company names may also relate to domain names for websites.

Sandart has successfully represented clients in disputes concerning trademarks and company names in a large number of court cases. We act as counsel before Swedish courts, the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. In addition, we assist our clients with drafting contracts relating to trademarks, company names and domain names. We also participate as experts in legislative work concerning trademarks and company names.

  • Copyright

Clients turn to us for leading expertise in copyright law. We are consistently ranked among Sweden’s top firms in this field. Our goal is to be the natural first choice for clients seeking cutting-edge copyright advice and representation.

The rise of digitalisation and AI makes copyright law an increasingly vital area for businesses and creators alike. Copyright and related rights today extends beyond books, music and design to also include software, apps, websites and databases.

Our experts support clients in exploiting rights, acquiring assets and resolving disputes in all types of copyright matters.

For several decades, Sandart has been involved in driving legal developments forward. We have represented our clients some of the most high-profile copyright cases in Sweden, such as complex copyright disputes before both the Supreme Court as well as the European Court of Justice. We often participate as experts and contribute to legislative work in the field of copyright, and are also regularly engaged as lecturers at universities throughout the country. Our lawyers have also written several articles in this field.

We help our clients to identify and safeguard copyright assets, maximise protection and licensing revenues, prevent infringement and reduce legal risks. Our experts have in-depth knowledge of various forms of protection and, with our long experience, we work strategically with our clients to increase their competitive advantages.

We work with clients across creative industries like music, art and literature, as well as technology sectors including IT, media and telecom. We assist both private and public actors and have particularly extensive expertise in collective management. Among other things, we have conducted cases and lawsuits concerning the law on collective management of copyright.

  • Designs

A product’s design – its shape and appearance – can be legally protected, either through registered or unregistered design rights or, in some cases, under copyright law.

As one of the leading law firms in this field, we have extensive experience in representing designers and companies in every aspect of design protection. We provide strategic advice, represent clients in court proceedings and draft agreements relating to design and design rights.

  • Trade secrets

For many businesses, trade secrets represent their most critical competitive advantage. Our experts provide strategic advice and drafts agreements relating to trade secrets. When disputes arise, we represent clients in court and arbitration, protecting their rights at every stage.
